You might be learning about the Church’s history of slaveholding for the first time. You may not have known that women, children, and men were sold to keep a university alive. You may be learning how the legacy of slavery continues to shape lives today. No matter what brings you here, you have a place in this story.

DTRF is led by the Descendants of those enslaved by the Society of Jesus and sold by the Church in 1838 to fund religious institutions. Our work is a response to that history and a step toward repair.

If you're just learning, your desire to understand matters. A brighter future requires all of us to listen, to carry the weight of what we’ve learned, to act in solidarity, and to call for change.
