Those enslaved by the Jesuits were baptized as Catholics and led lives of deep faith, family, and endurance — even as they were denied freedom, dignity, and the basic protections the Church had promised.
That is a painful truth. But as people of faith, we are called to face hard truths, love boldly, act justly, and walk with those who have been harmed — including reckoning with the role of faith in slavery and supporting the work of moral repair.
The Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation is a living witness to the teachings of the gospel. It puts mercy, solidarity, and justice into action by supporting the families whose ancestors were enslaved by the Society of Jesus. This work is not about shame or guilt but about responsibility.
By supporting the Foundation as a person of faith, you can:
- Fund scholarships for Descendants whose ancestors were denied education
- Provide dignity and safety to aging Descendants whose ancestors were denied care and protection
- Support healing initiatives that bring truth, justice, and reconciliation into our shared Church and communities
When you support the Foundation, your support becomes a living expression of faith — one that repairs harm, uplifts families, and helps build the kind of Church we want to leave to our own Descendants.
